You will write a complete paper as your first draft whereby the thesis statement is underlined.
Submission Guidelines & Assessment
You will write a complete paper as your first draft whereby the thesis statement is underlined. Failure to underline the thesis will result in you not getting the paper back.
You will have an introduction, body, and conclusion as any typical academic essay.
The paper will be in MLA format lite (I’ll explain this in class). This includes: appropriate headings, title, 12 point roman times font, double spaced, pagination, and a works cited page. An illustration will be provided with sample MLA paper. The essay will be exactly four pages of text in length, excluding the works cited page. A works
cited page will then be the fifth or sixth page of your essay. There is no title page
requirement. Partially done essays will not be accepted.
Your essay will consist of the following in this exact order:
a checklist page 1
an outline page 2-4
four pages of text pages 5-9
a works cited page 10
Your essay must contain a thesis statement along with five sources, four from the course
and outside source with room permitting. Four sources from the course readings and one
outside source. It is important that you also include anecdotal evidence in the form of a
relevant narrative. Integrate your evidence by describing your personal narrative and
relying on paraphrasing skills to incorporate ideas from outside sources into your essay.
You will use quotations sparingly to also provide evidence. The amount of quotations
you use should not exceed five in all.
Both of the prompts call for you to respond to one author’s ideas. Whichever one you
select, you must summarize their position. For instance, if you select the first prompt, see
student example, you want to summarize what is said, ideally, before you being with
what you feel about it. The included example demonstrates this. If you choose the second
prompt, which permits you to pick any essay we have done and respond it, in what ever
manner, that too must reflect a summary of all sources used and be conversing with the
author of that piece. You must submit your essay as one document. Do not send the body followed by the
works cited as two separate PDFs. It will not be accepted if you decide to ignore this
rule. Your document must be submitted in pdf format only. No google docs whatsoever.
Your file must be labeled as follows: first and last name plus E1 (Bob Smith E1) E1
stands for essay 1 draft 1. You must name the file accordingly or it will not be accepted.
No late submissions are accepted, period. You have the entire week to wok on one sole
draft.
Upload your essay with a checklist page 1, an outline page 2-4, four pages of text pages
5-9, and a works cited page 10 into one pdf document.
Assessment
This rubric will be used to assess your essay. You will receive feedback according to
the rubric and meet in a one on one conference upon receiving the first draft.
