1.) What are words and terms that Fulcher uses to describe the Crusade. What types of events does he compare the Crusade to? How does he describe the knights and soldiers? How does he describe the fighting and battles?

 

 

 

2.) What types of issues does Pope Urban II address in his speech? Does he only talk about going on Crusade? Does he speak about other matters and issues? Are there elements that you find surprising about the speech, given that it comes from a Pope?

 

 

 

3.) Drawing upon both Fulcher of Chartres and the Damascus Chronicle, how would you characterize Christian attitudes towards Muslims? Do you think that they respect Muslims and the Islamic faith? 4.) Describe the Muslim resistance to the Crusaders in the Near East. Are the Crusaders simply in the Near East to protect Jerusalem or are there other targets? How would you characterize the warfare? How would you characterize Muslim attitudes towards the Christian invaders?

 

 

 

5.) Who is attacking the Jews of Mayence (Mainz)? Who was protecting them? Did their protector betray them? In your opinion, why did the Jewish community choose the actions that they ultimately chose?
