Your essay should have four parts:
A concise introduction that states your thesis and explains the plan for the paper. See the essay template at the top of this page for a template for your introduction.
A summary of the philosophical view (and argument for/against it [if applicable])] (approx. 2 pages)
Clearly define the view you are discussing. Clearly identify the problem with the view.
In addition to stating the view, you should explainand defend the support for the view (either summarizing how they are supported in the readings or explaining how they should be supported).
A critical analysis/evaluation of the summarized view/problem (approx. 2 pages)
Critically evaluate the author’s argument. Is one of the premises false? Is the argument invalid or not well-supported? Is there evidence against the conclusion that the author failed to consider?
Is there a hypothetical way the original author could reply to your analysis? If so, how would you respond to them to show how/why their reply does not work?
A concise conclusion that restates your thesis and gives a brief synopsis of the author’s original argument/thesis.
