The Project Overview
This is an individual work. You are NOT allowed to copy and paste (or even slightly modify) from each other as such would be considered plagiarism. If your work is considerably similar to someone else’s work, both will get zero mark for this assignment. You have to submit your work that includes your essay and bibliography.
This project should be solely based on evidence and previously written research works (such as books, peer-reviewed journal articles, magazine articles), NOT your opinion. Thus, when you provide a statement, you have to mention the source. Do NOT forget to provide citations to the statements you make – otherwise you will lose large points. You can cite either through a footnote or in-text. Use the Chicago style for the reference.
Your written project should be a standard Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1-inch margins on all sides, double spaced (no extra spaces between paragraphs) and be in pdf format. Please, number your pages. Proofread your papers – you will lose points for spelling and grammar errors.

TASK:
The main purpose of this assignment is to analyze how Max Weber and Joseph Schumpeter viewed
capitalism. Your research paper should be a minimum of 5 pages in length (excluding
bibliography). For this project you should use a total of at least 6 peer-reviewed journal articles
which you can find on WSU library web page. Your research paper should answer to the following
questions:
1) How did the ideologies of Weber and Schumpeter on capitalism differ than most other
economists during their times? Describe them in detail.
2) Describe how they viewed the evolution of capitalism.
3) What were their main contributions in regards with how we view capitalism today as a
political and economic system?
4) According to them, what are the main roles of the government in the economy? What about
other economic actors, such as consumers/producers?
5) According to them, when and how does the overall society benefit from capitalism? Who
are the main beneficiaries of economic reforms due to capitalism?

6) Describe under what circumstances they thought capitalism may lead to failures. Provide
some examples.
7) Undoubtedly, the works of Weber and Schumpeter have come in for criticism. Provide the
reasons for such criticism and the main arguments contemporary economists had.
Note that Weber’s ideas on capitalism differed than Schumpeter’s. Thus, you may separate your
work into 2 sections, each is dedicated to the corresponding economist.
For this assignment, you are allowed to use other sources, such as books, reliable/trustworthy web
sources, etc. But you still have to use a total of at least 6 peer-reviewed journal articles.
Suggestions
Make sure your work does not sound “robotic” in the sense of a “question-answer” type. It must
rather have a smooth flow, as a single piece of art – just the way how the academic papers in the
“Paper Review” assignments are written. Try to keep your work in an academic format. A nicely
written project will have the following sections:
