[SOLVED] Use of music in the films
In essay format (prose, full sentences, introduction and conclusion paragraphs, etc.), you will
compare and contrast your films from Part 1. You may address any elements of the music you wish,
but you must also address a series of questions about the use of music in the films. For this part, you
should watch the films in their entirety.
• Content of the essay: Compare and contrast
1. Address at least two of the points below in prose format (full paragraphs). You should
treat this as an essay in which you compare the music of your films. Please be sure to
address the elements below, however you are welcome to add information that
interests, you if you wish. This does not have to be a 5-paragraph essay (there is no
need to have a “thesis” that you prove), but it should be treated as a fully written-out
discussion of the music in your films, with an introduction and conclusion.
▪ Your essay should include the following first two points, plus one additional
element as well (point 3 gives you some examples):
• The use of pre-existing music in your films. Discuss its placement
(diegetic, nondiegetic), the kinds of music used (pop songs vs.
classical, etc.), how it fits with the story (why it was included in the
film), use of special effects (audio dissolves).
• The role/function of the music (pre-existing and original) in the
narrative. Discuss the use of leitmotifs (trace one leitmotif in each
film) or musical topics (keep the standard topics in mind, such as
villain topics, hero topics, hurrys, love themes, etc.). You can also
