Please again do some preliminary research on illegal domestic spying that was uncovered
by Edward Snowden in 2013. Some of the spying, such as bulk collection of phone
records, has been canceled by Congress, but it’s always possible that the NSA, FBI and
other US governmental entities may still be spying anyways. Our resolution is That the
US Federal Government should be allowed to perform unrestrained electronic
surveillance on its citizens.
You may agree or disagree with this statement. If you agree, that makes you
AFFIRMATIVE. If you disagree, that makes you NEGATIVE.
Do you believe the government should do whatever it can, including spying on us, to
keep us all safe? If so you’re affirmative.
On the other hand, do you believe that the government should follow the Constitution and
“spy” on citizens only when there is evidence (called probable cause) against those
individual citizens? If so then you’re negative, and you would be against blanket
governmental spying, and you would want the government to obtain a legitimate warrant
before proceeding to spy on anyone.

Constitution in its effort to thwart terrorism.
Definitions:
Fourth amendment
Electronic surveillance
Federal Government
Observation I. Motive. The US Federal Government has spied on
its citizens in the past and is probably still doing so. This is a
violation of the Fourth Amendment.
Observation II. Blame. The US Federal Government (USFG) is
above the law and is able to get away with warrantless searches
through secret mass surveillance. The FISA court is a rubber
stamp and useless in protecting citizen’s rights.
Observation III. Plan. Force the USFG to follow the Constitution
and have probable cause (a legal warrant) prior to surveillance on
US citizens. (HINT: Fixing the FISA court or replacing it with
effective oversight may be the best course of action.)
Observation IV. Advantages. This will keep US citizens safe from
their own government.
