The American Revolution was the culmination of a series of events that took place on both sides of the Atlantic following the French and Indian War.
Beginning with an explanation of America’s place in the British Empire, give an account of the events that led to the war.
1. Which was more important to the coming of the American Revolution: the development of a set of intellectual/philosophical understandings in the American colonies regarding the colonists’ relationship to England,
especially concerning liberty, equality, reason, and so forth, or changes in specific British imperial policies?
2. How did these policies lead to a sense of alienation among the colonists and thereby provide a logical basis for revolt?
3. How did different social groups, in different regions of the colonies, respond to the coming revolution?
