[SOLVED] Project II: Inferential Statistics
Project II: Inferential Statistics
Directions: Using GSS-A, you will continue the work you began with Project I. This assignment is worth 100 points. You will use the same variables as you chose for the first project. The paper needs to be double spaced with a simple font and in APA format, including headings and a works cited page. Details are provided below.
Keep the same dependent variable you choose for Project I
HAPPY (general happiness)
POLVIEWS (think of self as liberal or conservative)
CHLDIDEL (ideal number of children)
HAPMAR (happiness of marriage)
HEALTH (condition of health)
Keep the same three independent variables from Project I
AGE (age of respondent)
INCOME16 (total family income)
EDUC (years of education)
CLASS (subjective class identification)
SEXORNT (sexual orientation)
RELIG (respondents religions preference)
TVHOURS (hours spent per day watching TV)
EMAILHR (email hours per week)
HRS1 (number of hours worked last week)
Before starting Project II:
Fix any errors or suggestions from Project #1.
Comments on your first project can be found in the “comments” section when you click on your score in the Grade Book.
Re-code these variables (if you are using these) to make the data manageable, as well as make these ordinal variables:
TVHOURS (hours spent per day watching TV
AGE (age of respondent)
EDUC (years of education)
INCOME16 (total family income)
EMAILHR (email hours last week)
HRS1 (number of hours worked last week)
After re-coding the necessary variables, re-do your frequency table for the variable and insert it into your paper in the correct place. You will use this recoded variable for the remainder of your analysis for Project II. You may also need to fix up your measures of central tendency and discussion regarding variability.
You will need to create the following “new” tables in SPSS:
Bivariate table and chi-squared for your first hypothesis
Bivariate table and chi squared for your second hypothesis
Bivariate table and chi-squared for your third hypothesis.
The Essay:
You will keep the headings from the first project (introduction, methods, measurement, descriptive statistics), and add the INFERENTIAL STATISTICS section, CONCLUSION, and WORKS CITED. What you need to place in these sections is outlined below.
INFERENTIAL STATISTICS
First Hypothesis:
Present research hypothesis and the null hypothesis.
Research Hypothesis: The variables are related.
Null Hypothesis: The variables are NOT related.
Say what alpha is (.05, .01, or .001) (you choose this because you are the researcher)
Place the chi-square statistics table in your paper.
Summarize – interpret what the table presents.
Do you accept or reject the null hypothesis? Explain what this means
Place the bivariate table here for the two variables.
Introduce the bivariate table for these two variables.
Tell me your original hypothesis (from your introduction)
Does the bivariate table indicate a relationship? Summarize the table.
If so, provide details. If not, what indicates there is no relationship?
Second Hypothesis:
Repeat with your second hypothesis.
Third Hypothesis:
Repeat with your third hypothesis.
CONCLUSION
Summarize your paper.
