[SOLVED] Policy Advocacy Letter
Policy Advocacy Letter:
Directions: Write a letter on a public health-related issue you feel passionate about (and that is a public health issue that needs addressing in the state where the policy leader you are writing resides and has influence).
This does not need to be related to the topic you are writing about in your policy brief. This assignment is not related to your policy brief and you can select a completely different health topic. With that said, you do still need to select an important health issue that you could make the case to a policy maker that it’s something they should care about.
Given all the policy maker you’ve selected to write to is hearing about, why is your health issue pressing and something they should take action on. The purpose of this letter is to advocate for policy change on your selected topic.
Remember to focus on only one health issue. Your letter will be either addressed to a senator, governor or someone else that has the ability to enact policy change on your selected topic.
THIS POLICY LETTER WILL BE ADDRESSED TO THE GOVERNOR OF MARYLAND, UNITED STATES
You should include the following in your letter:
1.A brief introduction (that discusses the issue and why it’s a problem for their constituents);
2.Discuss in a persuasive manner the need for policy change (remember, use facts to build your arguments not “I feel language”);
3.Conclude with a summary paragraph highlighting your key points.
You should include at least three citations from peer reviewed journals, utilizing APA format seventh edition, to support your position. I recognize you likely wouldn’t include citations in a letter, but I want you to work on supporting your arguments with evidence based literature. Your letter should be no shorter than 2 pages double spaced (Times New Roman 12-point font) and no longer than 4 pages double-spaced.
The purpose of this letter is to use skills and knowledge developed from this course; therefore, you should utilize book chapters we have covered up to this point. You should particularly focus on the chapters examining enacting policy change and advocacy communication, as well as how to communicate with policy makers and lay audiences.
Your letter should be well-written and professional/polished.
