Examples: Staff are part-time student volunteers that turns over 2 or 3 times/year. (Lines 29-33) It seems that while the internship is considered competitive, student volunteers are frustrated for not working in their area of expertise. (Lines 87-90)
What are the characteristics of Julie’s management and/or leadership style? How does it show up in the workplace?
Example: Julie provides answers and solutions to staff needs as opposed to having systems or helping staff learn how to determine the answer without her. Examples: lines 69-84.
Identify three significant unproductive individual, team, or organizational situations or dynamics. For each dysfunction, describe who, what, how and possible why’s they are occurring and provide at least two supporting observations for each.
Example: Staff do not feel supported by Julie. (Line 58, 85-86) Staff do not want to make eye contact with Julie and talk about poor training and lack of preparedness instead of staying engaged in the meeting. Given demands of the office, clients, and law students, NCLS likely can’t dedicate enough time for training and turnover is causing learning loss each semester.
Suggest possible changes that could address at least one of dysfunctions listed in Question 3.
