[SOLVED] expand your intellectual horizons

Purpose:  To challenge your mind and your heart, to expand your intellectual horizons, to “boldly go where
you  have  not  gone  before.”    This  should  provide  NEW  insight  and  a  new  perspective  that  is  personally
enriching. It will require that you step outside your comfort zone in order to learn more about a venue, practice,
community, belief system, lifestyle, or event about which you are curious.f  you  choose  a  remote  project,  you  may  use  any/all  tools  and  strategies  that  reduce  or  eliminate  your
possible exposure to the coronavirus and individuals with COVID-19. Possible tools include but are not
limited  to  telephone,  email,  websites,  social  media  platforms  (incl.  Facebook,  Twitter,  Instagram,  etc.),
blogs, full-length streamed or downloaded video content, live video meeting apps (i.e., Webex, Zoom, ),
television, radio, print, etc.
USE ANY OF THESE IDEAS:
Exploration/Field Trip Project ideas, remote:
Plan and conduct an exhaustive review and analysis of
websites that offer information on sexual and reproductive
health for a specific population
Subscribe to a dating/hookup app (i.e., Tinder, Bumble,
Grindr, Hinge, etc.), spend a week exploring how the app
works, connect with other subscribers
Watch a full-length porn video, have a friend or family
Perform a thorough review and analysis of online member watch the same video (social distancing), discuss and compare the experience
pornography, exploring a variety of sites that cater to different interests and/or populations
 Learn something new using YouTube, etc., for example, learn to pole/chair dance, strip, do burlesque, counsel
persons with HIV/AIDS, etc. [Disclaimer: I understand that pole dancing and burlesque, for example, or not
inherently sexual, but they are often sexualized]
 Prepare a series of open-ended questions pertaining to “sensitive” issues such as same sex marriage, gay clergy,
premarital sex, contraception/abortion, gender roles, etc. Interview 3 clerics from different religious denominations
or faith traditions (i.e., Christian, Jewish, Muslim);
 Thoroughly review an adult products website (i.e., Cirillas, Adam and Eve, etc.), investigate a variety of product categories, submit a question to a customer service representative
 Take a virtual tour of a sexually-themed museum or facility, like the Museum of Sex (NYC), the Kinsey Institute (Bloomington, IN), the Erotic Heritage Museum (Las Vegas), etc.
 Review a sample of sex workers’ videos on TikTok, etc.,
summarize their experiences and challenges
Written Report of Exploration: Format double-spaced (1.5-2), maximum 1-inch margins all sides, 12-
pt. nondecorative typeface, minimum 3 pages in length.  Content must include the following:
1. Why you selected this exploration/field trip.
2. Provide a thorough, step-by-step description of how you planned, carried out,
and followed up on your project.
3. Describe any new knowledge and/or feelings you acquired as a result of the
exploration/field trip. What do you know that you didn’t know before? Do
you feel any different toward the venue/practice/community/belief
system/event, etc. than before?
4. Does the venue/practice/community/belief system/event, etc., should it, have an appropriate place in our society? Why/why not?
5. In person: What were your impressions of other persons in attendance? (gay bar example: other bar goers); Remote: How was the website, platform, etc. marketed?
6. In person: What were your impressions of the persons participating in the event? (gay bar example: bouncers, bartenders, other employees or entertainment); Remote: What were your impressions of the persons you observed, engaged with, learned about, in the course of your project?
7. Evaluate the worth of the project to you individually.
8. Would you recommend the experience to others?
9. How does the project relate to the course?
