INDIVIDUAL COURSEWORK ASSIGNMENT
Assignment 3 for the BEM3033 module (only) is an individual assignment which
requires you to analyse and report on an organizational case. Your task is therefore
to produce a 2,000-word business strategy analysis report in response to the case
study.
You will be provided with a pre-prepared business case study containing enough information about it to carry out a detailed strategic analysis of the business case.
In each of the BEM3033 lectures and seminar sessions, we have provided you with the models, theories and frameworks employed in strategic analysis. We have provided you with the opportunity to apply these to your chosen organisations in
building your own case study for assignments 1 and 2. Throughout this time you have gained a clearer understanding of the overall strategic management processes in understanding the organisation you have chosen.
Remember though, all organisations are different and those organisations’ that are successful are those whose management teams are aware of, through constant scanning and sensing, the external environment. They understand what their
organisations are capable of and are able to adapt their organisations to counter
those challenges.
In addition to your response to the Business Strategy Analysis report, select only one question from the following 4 to be answered with your response to the general case study question.
1. Stakeholder management theory requires that strategic managers adopt the strategies that represent the aims of the most influential stakeholders. Discuss any tensions observed in the case study. How might those tensions have
arisen? How would you suggest Lafuma responds to those tensions in the design of strategic direction?
2. Discuss innovation in relation to the Lafuma case study. What elements of the case study suggest that Lafuma is innovative or not? How would you suggest Lafuma promote strategies for innovation within the organisation as a
whole? What, in your opinion is the value of implementing innovation strategies within this organisation at this point in time?
3. The global pandemic had different impacts on different organisations. Discuss how you think the pandemic impacted Lafuma. What strategy(s) would you consider appropriate for Lafuma on emerging from the pandemic? What challenges and opportunities do you consider this will bring?
4. Sustainability and managing carbon emissions is becoming increasingly important to organisation. Discuss the factors identified in the case study that reference Lafuma’s attitude to sustainability. Identify specific strategies that
you feel Lafuma could improve upon.

• Evaluate different strategic options using objective criteria to support and justify recommended decisions and use these skills in case study discussions to research real world organisations.
• Discuss how strategy is delivered and the implementation tools and techniques which are used in different contexts.
• Develop strategic analyses based on case material, desk research and research in the marketplace.
• Identify the problems discussed as either complex but tractable problems,
truly wicked or soft problems.
• Manage time efficiently in preparing for learning activities and to work
independently within a limited timeframe to complete a specified task.

• Your report should be professionally presented as a business report.
• The 2000-word count will be observed with a tolerance of -/+ 10%
• APA 7 must be used for all references.
• Your Executive Summary will not be included in the word count.
• Figures, tables and illustrations can be presented in the main text but should
be used judiciously.
• Appendices will not be included in the word count but again, should be used
judiciously to support the main report and not to supplement it.
• The reference page will not be included in the word count.
