As we have discussed in class, physical anthropology is a scientific discipline. It is a dynamic field with new research and discoveries made every year. Plus, physical anthropologists are also interested in new scientific discoveries that could impact the field. The “In the News” assignment gives you an opportunity to explore new research and to think critically about it.
You will analyze a news article using the prompts given. Your final product should be around 1.5-2 pages.
For this assignment, you will pick a recent news article that pertains to physical anthropology. Pick an article that was published in 2020, 2021, or 2022.

Guidelines:
Students will write about a recent news articles that pertain to Physical Anthropology. Articles should be published in 2020-2022.
This assignment is designed to have you read an article from a newspaper, magazine, or credible online news source and to analyze that article (not a blog, not Wikipedia, etc. If in doubt, please send me a message).
From the news source, you will find and read about an issue that pertains to Physical Anthropology. The topic is up to you, but for the first “In the News” assignment, you should focus on the following topics: human evolution, archaic humans, Neanderthals, forensic anthropology, early Hominins, and human variation.
Paper Format:
Include your full name and assignment title in the upper right-hand corner of the first page.
Give the following information to cite your source at the top of the page: Author. Date. Article Title. Newspaper. Include a web link if relevant.
There should be at least 4 paragraphs with approximately 5-8 sentences in each paragraph.
Paragraphs 1-2: Summary of the article. Please include the following information: who, what, when where, why and how. For example, consider:
Who/what is the topic of the article?
Who are the researchers involved in the project, discovery, news, etc.?
When did the event happen or when is it going to happen?
Where did the event happen?
Why did the event happen? What is the cause of/reason for the event? Why is it relevant to Physical Anthropology?
How did it happen? How is it possible? How are people reacting?
Keep any quotes brief. If you use quotes, make sure to cite the source to avoid plagiarism. In-text citations are acceptable.
Paragraph 3-4: Reflection on the main idea presented in the article. Please the following information:
1 or 2 paragraphs (5-8 sentences each)
Make a general statement about how the information in the article is related to physical anthropology. Does the information seem accurate? Credible?
(You can include information from the lectures, sources from class, and/or the textbook. Again, cite your sources!
Reflect on how the information in the article is important to you or to others as well as the impact it has on the field of physical anthropology.
Tell your reaction to the article and why you think/feel that way.
