ACCT 436 Research Paper on Emerging Issues
Every year, big 4 firms and professional organizations such as COSO, IIA,
Gartner, Inc. etc., identify current emerging issues/top risks/hot spots/focus
areas that should be considered by internal auditors in preparing their Annual
Internal Audit Plans.
Search the internet to locate an article listing current emerging issues/top
risks/hot spots/focus areas that should be considered by internal auditors in
preparing their Annual Internal Audit Plans. The article should have been
published in 2020 or 2021 by one of the following professional organizations.
(Articles from other organizations will not be accepted):
• PWC
• E&Y
• KPMG
• Deloitte
• The IIA
• ISACA
• COSO
• Protiviti
• ACFE
• Gartner/CEB Global
Select one emerging risk/issue/hot topic from the article and write a report that
discusses
1. The emerging risk/issue
2. Why it is relevant for internal auditors and what its impact on Internal
Auditing is, and
3. How internal auditors can prepare to address it.
Since we study RPA in week 8, DO NOT SELECT RPA
The issue should be related to Internal Audit and Not Public Accounting. You
should cite the article which identifies the emerging risk/issue. Do not
discuss multiple risks.
The paper should have an introductory paragraph, a discussion covering the
above three topics and a concluding statement. In your discussion, you should
use a minimum of 3 references (including the source from where you selected
the issue) and list them in the Bibliography. Your answer should be original,
specific, well-reasoned and supported by your references. Do not just quote from
the article or a web page, or recycle a paper from an earlier class. Useappropriate paragraphs; bullet points will not do. This Research paper caries
15% of your grade.
Your response, excluding the cover page and bibliography should be two pages
or more in length (single spaced in Arial 12 font). It should be posted as an
attachment to the ‘Research Paper: Emerging Issues’ in the Assignment
folder by the due date. Do not post in Discussions.
Name your file ‘Emerging Issues_your Last Name’. Include your name in
the document as well.
