[SOLVED] Rehabilitation counseling and human services
Research Paper: (25%, 25 points) Topic Approval Due by Week 6; Final draft paper rehabilitation counseling and human services
Choose a disability topic relevant to rehabilitation counseling and human services. You may choose any type of disability (i.e., sensory (visual/hearing) impairments; psychiatric disabilities (PTSD, anxiety, depression, etc.); physical disability (spinal cord);
neurodevelopmental disability (autism, ADD/ADHD, learning disability, etc.) and others). Make sure to receive prior approval for your paper topic from the course instructor.
(Approval request due Week 6 – submit via Discussion Board) The
purpose of this paper is:
a. To increase your understanding of disabilities and related issues
b. To guide you in the preparation of graduate-level research papers
c. To make known the standards expected of students both in academia and professional life
d. To emphasize the importance of careful reading, critical thinking, and clear writing in scholarship
Your final product will be a 6 to 8 page, APA formatted, double-spaced, paper exploring the topic of your choice, provided that you received preliminary approval from the course instructor. (Cover page, Abstract page, and Reference page are not counted
in the page length. If you are not familiar with APA format, there are many resources and a template included in our course documents for reference and to help you do well on the paper. Proper format is required. Additional APA resources are listed in the
syllabus under the textbook information.
Your paper should include:
1. The Title Page (2 points), with:
a. The Running Head (the short title of your paper-50 characters or less-in all caps) the header at the top left [Running head: SHORT TITLE OF PAPER]
b. The Paper Title, center justified, approximately 8-character returns down the page
c. Your name (The Author)
d. Your Institutional Affiliation (University at Buffalo)
e. Author’s Note (this may include your email or reason for choosing the topic
optional)
2. Abstract (4 points): A separate page with a single paragraph, single-spaced, between approximately 150 and 250 words. This is the first section (with heading) of your paper and summarizes the key points/topic question areas of the
paper. (it’s a bit like a spoiler alert-it basically mentions each of the heading content areas and the key point.) Consider writing one or two sentences summarizing each topic question area, as a start to your abstract.
3. Body of the Paper (15 points): Start with a brief statement paragraph to
introduce the disability topic area. In the main body of the paper, explain your
topic area in detail and support via citing your sources throughout the paper. End
with a conclusion summarizing the main points of your paper and reiterate your
overall topic area and related theme. The body should be double-spaced, with
each paragraph indented. There are specific sections of a standard APA format
research paper that we will not include here. (Method, Results, and Discussion
section)
The body of the paper should clearly summarize each of the following topic
question areas separately and in this order. Each area should include these
headings followed by the information you discovered through your research
(3 points for each area):
a. Etiology (potential cause – biological, psychological, social, etc.)
b. Primary functional limitations
c. Relevant medical treatment
d. Prognosis
e. Other information and Conclusion (include content you feel is important
to further explain your topic.)
4. References (4 points): A separate page with your APA Style references should
be included. The word “References” should be center justified at the top of a new
page, with your references properly formatted. Although each paper may have a
different number of references, it depends on the topic. There should be a
minimum of at least four references, but most papers will have more than that.
References should be CURRENT (five to seven years old, but absolutely nothing
older than ten years). To avoid plagiarism, be sure to cite your resources
throughout the paper. Submit final paper to UBlearns by Week 12.
