1. What is the study purpose? What are the research questions? Was the
purpose of the study clearly stated?
2. What kind of study is this (research design)? Was the research design
appropriate to answer the research question(s)?
3. What is the rationale for study or problem being investigated?
Sample, Data Collection, Data Analysis
4. What was the sample and criteria for selection? Does the author give
adequate information about the sample (e.g. information about gender,
race, ethnicity, social class, etc.) and clear criteria for sample selection?
5. How were data collected?
6. How were data analyzed?
Findings/Conclusions, Trustworthy/Validity, Significance
7. What were the key findings, i.e. what did the investigator learn, find out or
discover? Do you think that the findings are trustworthy, valid? Why?
Does the discussion of the findings make sense to you? Is the study
significant?
8. Is there enough information provided about how the study was conducted
so that it could be repeated? (audit trail)
