Monroe’s Motivated Sequence

1. Outline required (hardcopy at time of speech)
2.  5-7 minutes
3. Visual aid allowed but not required; limited to one slide if visual aid is digital (or ask a classmate for help)
4. You must use Monroe’s Motivated Sequence as your format.  See your textbook.  We will also cover in class after the midterm and resources will be posted soon.
5. For your topic, choose a current issue; something pertinent to your audience at this time in history and in their lives.  Make it something they care about – not “peanut butter and jelly vs. grilled cheese”.
6. You may speak from your outline or index cards – no phones or tablets.  You will speak extemporaneously:  mastering your material and imparting it to your audience in a conversational manner.  Do not read, as if you are reading a paper also make sure you include a out line of the speech
