Module 7 and 8: Literature of Conflict and War (Discussion Board)
One of the quotes from writer Phil Klay, author of Redeployment, a U.S. Marine and former student in NH, that has stuck with me is this one: “Pity addresses the perceived suffering, not the whole individual.” During these two weeks as we’ve read of the large scale and personal effects of conflict what has that been like, trying to observe these situations, the whole individual to the extent possible, much as one observes clouds crossing across the sky, neither chasing them/obsessing about them, not forcefully pushing them away?
