Assignment Guidelines This assignment aims to enhance understanding and knowledge of contemporary issues in mental health care delivery by applying information to clinical practice and the role of the mental health nurse (MHN) in providing support and education to individuals in mental health services.
Sharing the vision P31 (DoH, 2020) focusses upon issues around social stigma and discrimination in mental health across the lifespan. A recurring theme arising out of the consultation process was that mental health stigma, self-stigmatisation, prejudice and discrimination are some of the main reasons why people experiencing mental health difficulties do not seek help. Reducing the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health difficulties is central to improved wellbeing at a societal level.
Critically examine approaches to mental health care delivery across settings in line with the Sharing the Vision policy document on how stigma, self-stigmatisation, prejudice and discrimination impact on ‘Maternal mental health and mental health during pregnancy’ topic. Also, consider the role of the MHN in conjunction with voluntary organisations and support services in promoting mental health care access and self-help strategies.
