Gospel of Mathew and Luke and Romans assignment

 

Please answer the following questions with complete sentences. Each question should take a minimum of three paragraphs (however, students may write as much as they wish). Your responses should be based on the selections and not outside research. You may use information from lecture, but the idea is for you to make your own judgments and evaluations based upon the texts. To support your opinions, please feel free to quote or give examples from the texts. You are being evaluated not on whether or not you give the correct answer (many times there is no “right” answer), but on how well you attempted to address the issues in each question.

 

Each question is worth 10 points.

1.) What type of behavior does Jesus require of his followers? What issues does he want his disciples to think about? How does Jesus demonstrate his “power?” To whom does Jesus minister and whom does his message attract? After he is resurrected, to whom does he first appear?

2.) Compare and contrast the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. How are they similar? How are they different? Think in terms of the stories that they tell and the themes.

3.) To whom is Paul writing? According to Paul, for whom is the message of Jesus? What does Paul say about becoming Jewish and obeying Jewish law? In Paul’s letter, what was the purpose of the crucifixion? What did humanity gain through the crucifixion?
