[SOLVED] Foster’s typology of Christian traditions
Part I: (5-7 pages) WHAT – Apply Foster’s typology of Christian traditions to a historical figure.( Streams of Living Water by Richard J. Foster)
Analyze a primary historical document and explain the meaning of the work.
WHY –
Our ability to discern the traditions at work in the lives of others helps us to better understand the diversity, complexity, and unity in the church that is the body of Christ, since each tradition represents a way of following Jesus. Reading the firsthand written material of the historical figures provides you with a close up look at major works that contributed to the longstanding legacy and major impact of Christianity in the world today.
Assignment:
Write a report on a particular historical (Leo the Great). The paper will focus on a primary resource(s) and your critical engagement of material written by the historical figure directly rather than someone’s assessment of their writings
WRITING EXPECTATIONS: You are expected to submit written work that reflects thoughtful content as well as high-quality writing standards according to MLA style.
For the assignment, use Word documents double-spaced, with 1-in margins, in Time New Roman 12pt. font.
A brief sketch of the major ground to cover in this 5-page paper (no more than 7p.):
Introductory paragraph: Present your historical figure and your main idea. Describe the structure/ flow of your paper.
Bio: (1/2 page) You can provide a little biographical/ background information in terms of an insightful story and a little factual data but not too much.
Primary Source: (3 pages) Break down the meaning of the primary resource (the writing/ letter/ book chapter/article/ song/ etc). Provide the essential flow of the arguments or message of the document and consider the major moves that are being made in the document. What was the intent, purpose, or function of the work? Is there some sort of Biblical, theological, or spiritual contribution made by what he/ she created, wrote, preached, carried out, and if so, why/ how? You must quote directly from the source in order to demonstrate that you have engaged the original work firsthand and cite it properly. Failure to quote at a bare minimum of 1- quote per paragraph will result in a full letter grade deduction for the paper.
Foster’s Christian Tradition: (1-page) Based on your reading of the primary source* that you selected and your understanding of the background information, which one of Foster’s Christian traditions does this historical best represent? Explain your answer by applying Foster’s work to your historical figure in order to make your case. You may quote directly from Foster as well. If Foster mentioned the historical figure, do you agree or disagree with his assessment and why/ why not?
Personal reflection: (1/2 page) How did you feel, and what did you think about the historical figure? Were you inspired, encouraged, saddened, or confused? Possibly conduct a strengths and weaknesses analysis if this is applicable. Are there things here that you agree/ disagree with and if so, why?
Proper citations and direct quotes from the primary source. Basically, you should use at least two quotes per paragraph but a minimum of at least 1 – quote per paragraph for the content section and proper explication, illustration, or application of those quotes.
