NUR3540:  (EBP) Paper Guidelines
First Step towards Capstone Presentation 2021

Objectives:

Identify a problem-focused phenomenon based upon your observations in clinical
Critically analyze published research related to this phenomenon and nursing practice.

This assignment will help you gain experience conducting an introductory EBP paper on a phenomenon related to an identified problem found in your clinical practice.
1. Select a topic with your instructor’s approval (based upon a clinical problem area). First meeting with capstone advisor by October 1, 2020. Upload topic in a PICOT question format to blackboard by 08:00am on October 19, 2021.
2. Conduct a search using the various electronic databases. Limit the search to the past 5 years and to peer-reviewed journals.
3. Review abstracts and print three of the most relevant research articles related to your phenomenon. A minimum of two articles must be primary sources and one may be a secondary source. Articles reviewed should be representative of what is known about this phenomenon. Second meeting with capstone advisor between October 11 and November 8, 2021.
4. Read each article critically using the guidelines provided in your text/class.
5. Write an annotated bibliography. The paper should contain:
Title page (3 points [per APA])
Abstract (7 points)
Main body of paper (70 points)
Title of Paper (instead of Introduction). This section should include problem “statement”, relevance of this phenomenon to nursing, purpose of the paper, databases searched and key search terms used (20 points).
Annotations include annotations from 3 articles (10 points/annotation X 3 annotations=30 points).
*Annotations must include:
Citation per APA (2 points)
Summary of article in your own words (3 points)
Critique of research article as a source of evidence (5 points)
Summary and critique of each annotation should total 200-300 words
Conclusion –include evaluation of the strength of the evidence and targeted recommendations (interventions), gaps identified based upon this review (20 points).
The paper should be approximately 8 pages long including title page, abstract, main body (introduction, annotated bibliography, conclusion), and reference page.
This is a formal paper. Paper must be written in APA (7th ed.) format including annotations, references, paper format etc. (10 points).
Headings to be included: Abstract, Title, Annotations, Conclusion, and References per APA (7th ed.)
Writing style, spelling, and grammar (10 points).
Acts of plagiarism will result in a grade of 0% for this assignment. All students should submit your paper through SafeAssign as a draft. Any paper with greater than 25% plagiarism should be reviewed. Direct quotations are not allowed. The professor reserves the right to submit any paper through SafeAssign.
5% will be deducted daily for each day the paper is late. An extension may be granted in advance of the due date by mutual agreement between student and faculty in the event of extenuating circumstances.
6. Upload EBP paper for Peer Assessment to blackboard by 8am November 16th and send EBP paper to member within your working group.
