Semester Paper – Stage 2 Instructions crafting a realistic utopia
Stage 1 of your Semester Paper consisted of a 3-step journey from describing your issue or concern to
crafting a realistic utopia for your issue or concern. In a way, your whole paper is envisioned in Stage 1.
In Semester Paper – Stage 2, you will have the chance to think more carefully about power and the process
through which one builds power to actually do something about the issue or concern.
Your job in Stage 2 is to discuss your perspective on power and the ways to build power to help solve your
issue or concern. You may have discussed power somewhat in Step 2 of Stage 1. If so, great! Now you can do
more. But, if not, here’s your chance.
In Stage 2, you will write about our theme of power. You will do so by READING the documentary video
transcript and incorporating 2 additional readings (which I have attached down below along with the transcript
for the video titled “Making the Impossible Possible…”) to help explain your perspective on power and how
one would build power to move your issue or concern in the direction of a solution that is visionary but doable
(a realistic utopia in 3 words).

1. Read “Making the Impossible Possible” transcript
2. Read the 2 new readings.
3. Use insights drawn from the “Making the Impossible Possible” and the 2 new readings to develop and
discuss your view of power and how your selected element(s) of power that you discuss will help move your
issue or concern toward your vision of a realistic utopia.
