Research project that is realistic and manageable
Please read the professor’s comment (highlighted in yellow) in order to address them in Part 3 of the research paper.
Part 1 (DUE 10/29/2021)
Before undertaking any substantive writing on the research paper, a research paper proposal is expected. This should be made on 1-page (double-spaced) and contain:
a tentative title of your research paper.
a paragraph describing the research question/problem that you would like to research.
a set of hypothesis and/or a thesis statement.
a basic outline and anticipated word count for each section of your paper.
I will provide individualized comments, a few suggestions, and a grade within one week. As this is primarily a developmental step towards your final paper no rubric is attached.
The primary purpose of this exercise is to help you identify a research project that is realistic and manageable for the purpose of this course and to assure that your research aligns in terms of scope and possible resources available to you.
“More work is needed to identify a thesis statement that is specific and a research question that guides your interest in the DST. See my specific comments as annotations. Onwards to the literature review! Dr. Lüdert
What is your research question stemming from this outline on the DST?
was this a misconception or was that the reality? In other words how do existing trade rules affected the onset of the DST?
As a result, the DST system has proved disastrous to the EU’s innovation ecosystem. ‘(professor comment: This already reads like a conclusion. You want to analyze the effects rather than state them upfront)
Part 2 (11/03/2021)
Research Paper Literature Review Description:
To further establish your research towards your final paper you are writing a literature review that substantiates your research proposal. For this assignment you are going to complete a small-scale literature review on the topic outlined in your research paper proposal. You are asked to locate at least five (5) academic sources on your topic and write a minimum of two (2) but no more than three (3) pages (double-spaced) descriptive review on these sources and how they connect with your project.
As for the proposal, I will provide individualized comments, a few suggestions, and a grade within one week. As this is primarily a developmental step towards your final paper no rubric is attached.
Guide to Complete the Literature Review
A literature review is a descriptive summary of research on a topic that has previously been studied. The purpose of a literature review is to inform readers of the significant knowledge and ideas that have been established on a topic. Its purpose is to compare, contrast and/or connect findings that were identified when reviewing researchers’ work. This literature review is intended to ground your research proposal with what is known about your chosen subject and in order to establish a foundation for your research. The purpose of this assignment is to facilitate your abilities to research your identified topic so you can learn to
(1) identify and formulate an inquiry question that defines what you’d like to learn,
(2) apply your knowledge on reading research that you’ve learned in class,
(3) analyze information found in journal articles/scholarship and
(4) synthesize new knowledge into a written small-scale literature review.
Steps to complete your small-scale literature review:
Review your research proposal and my comments.
(Re)Formulate your inquiry that specifically describes what would like to know about your topic/research.
Go to the library to search for and locate journals/scholarship that include your topic’s information.
Find articles, read the abstracts, and skim the articles to determine if they correspond well to your topic AND inquiry question.
Select at least 5 journal articles that are most relevant for your project.
Read these articles and begin to sort and classify them according to their findings.
Organize your articles by sorting and classifying their findings in a meaningful way, always considering your original topic and inquiry question.
First outline and then write your review.
You were able to identify timely and relevant sources for your research project. The way you synthesize the information from each source will allow you to work these into your first draft. Continue to ask yourself how does the scholarship inform my research question; does it confirm it or offer an alternative explanation? How do my own empirical findings match the scholarship? Excellent work on this part of your research sequence, Dr. Luedert
Part 3 (11/12/2021)
Research Paper Draft (10 pages, double-spaced) (10% of final grade)
To incorporate your ideas first formulated in your research proposal and further established through the literature review this assignment will be writing your first draft of your research paper. As this is a draft it is understood not to be a fully polished product but, that said, it should be a clearly structured paper that includes written paragraphs (rather than a series of bullet points or unconnected rough ideas and notes).
• The research paper draft effectively incorporates the feedback on your proposal, literature review and develops your argument.
• The draft must have a clear thesis statement and theoretical framework,
• Use at least seven (7) academic resources that have not been discussed in class and use at least five (5) primary data sources.
• Offer a tentative conclusion that summarizes the key points of your thesis/argument.
Please note that this assignment uses the same rubric as the for the final paper and as such will offer you feedback for areas of improvement.
Part 4 (12/1/2021)
Research Paper Final (15 pages, double-spaced) (25% of final grade)
To incorporate your ideas first formulated in your research proposal and further established through the literature review and in your first draft this assignment will be writing your final research paper.
• The research paper effectively incorporates the feedback you received on your first draft and is your final polished written project.
• It fully substantiates the thesis statement and theoretical framework, through the appropriate and effective use of academic sources that both integrate and go beyond in class readings. It uses empirical data to establish your argument through synthesis writing.
• Apart from summarizing key points of the argument also offers a discussion that goes beyond the topic under investigation and by pointing towards other areas of application or theoretical questions.
Read the instructions carefully so that the Paper flows smoothly. It needs to be flawless… All the parts need to make from the proposal through the final research paper. It is a 4 parts paper.
All sources need to be scholarly and excerpts from the book must be used. See grading rubric for more information on the citations.
